Profile Practice
Emphasis: Since 1978, Jon has represented employers in labor and
employment matters. Serving as a senior partner at Bullard Smith Jernstedt Harnish from 1978-2001, he was the head of the firm’s
litigation practice handling cases throughout the country. In addition to
employment, discrimination, and wrongful discharge litigation in state and
federal courts, Jon’s practice has also included extensive state and federal
administrative agency practice. He specializes in advising employers in claim
prevention, litigation, affirmative action, OFCCP proceedings, personnel
policies/practices, manpower development/strategic planning, compensation,
traditional labor issues, and enforcement proceedings. He is also a frequent
speaker in client training and seminar sessions. In 2001 Jon “retired” from the firm to pursue
opportunities advising employers in general labor and employment legal issues
and other related business matters. Since then he has served in temporary
in-house positions with two long time clients Nike and NW Natural Gas
Company. Recently, Jon is consulting with professional service
firms (primarily law and accounting) to assist professionals in developing
personalized practice development skills and plans. This service is primarily
two fold dealing with professional practice deficiencies and issues (e.g.
billing, client relationships, work and personal habits, etc.) and also,
separately or in conjunction with the other issues, dealing with individual
issues of maximizing profitability and efficiency through relationships,

Background: Jon was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and has lived
in Detroit, Michigan and San Marino, California before settling with his
family in Lake Oswego, Oregon in 1959. Married in 1972 to Kristi they have
three grown children-Tyler, Justin and Ashley. Kristi and Justin, Harnish
Properties at Realty Trust Group, are consistently two of the top residential
real estate salespeople in Oregon. Jon and Kristi are active in community,
charitable organization and church affairs. Among other organizations, they
have served as co-chairs of the United Way Alexia d’Toqueville
Society, Board of Advisors of Pacific Crest Outward Bound School and Jon was
elected twice to the Lake Oswego School District Board of Directors. Jon
